Cayman Islands: Bikini Getaway
Posted by Bianca Kellaway on June 19, 2012The Cayman Islands - Grand Cayman, Little Cayman and Cayman Brac - are just south of Cuba in the Caribbean Sea and known worldwide for everything from scuba diving to offshore banking.
None of the islands have the party vibe that’s made the Caribbean a popular Spring Break destination, but Grand Cayman does have its special brand of laid-back fun and you can still find unspoiled stretches of beach that make the Caymans a true bikini getaway.
The main stretch of sand on Grand Cayman is called Seven Mile Beach. Most of it is used by the resorts on the road that runs parallel, but Cemetery Beach and the aptly named Public Beach are both open to the public, with Cemetery being a bit quieter and Public featuring a lot more activities.
If it’s a mixture of pool and beach you want, then the Marriott Grand Cayman Beach Resort is the place to go. Their pool sits right on their own private beach, so you can go back and forth all day!
Want a little adventure in your MINX bikini? Then take an afternoon to visit Stingray City, where you can swim, snorkel or dive with surprisingly friendly stingrays.
Just because we said the Caymans don’t have a party vibe doesn’t mean there aren’t any parties. In a place where vacationing is considered a sport, you won’t be at a loss when it comes to hitting the town after the sun goes down. While there aren’t any pool parties per se, you’ll probably want to wear your MINX bikini under your clubbing clothes - there’s always someplace nearby to cool off and take a dip!
Start off with sunset drinks at Aqua Beach or the Wharf, where Happy Hour takes on a whole new meaning. Then dine directly on the beach at Kalbo, poolside at Stingers Luau, or on the sea with Jolly Roger or Sunset dinner cruises. If you’re looking to go right from dinner to dancing without a change of scenery, Bamboo and Royal Palms are the top spots for both.
Then, hit the clubs - O Bar has the chicest setting, while Next Level and JET have theme nights that are hugely popular - they’re all in Seven Mile Beach, which means club-hopping is never out of the question.
Want to get off the beach for a bit? Go to Hell! This tourist attraction is built around a prehistoric rock named Hell by the locals thanks to its black fungal growth. Sprung up around it is a fun shop selling Hell-inspired tchotchkes, and you can even send a postcard from here that’s postmarked from Hell.
If shopping’s your thing, George Town features duty-free stores. And nature lovers will want to visit the nearby Butterfly Farm, or the Cayman Turtle Farm on Boatswain’s Beach.
