If your metabolism is not running right, either due to disease or bad eating habits, your cells become resistant to insulin. When this happens, glucose wanders aimlessly through your bloodstream and high blood sugar results.

How does this affect belly fat? Since your body can’t get this glucose you’re your muscle and organ cells, it converts this glucose into fat and stores it in your abdomen.

Cortisol is a stress hormone. It directs the storage of belly fat in times of crisis or extreme hunger. Many of us are stressed on a daily basis and also skip meals frequently due to busy schedules. Both of these things send a shot of cortisol directly into the bloodstream, where it takes the fat we eat and stores it for later instead of allowing your body to use it as fuel.

Research shows that lack of sleep and irregular sleep also releases cortisol. People who sleep less than six hours a night have as much as 20% more belly fat and an additional six inches around their waistline than people who sleep 8 hours a night.

Vitamin C plays a powerful role in balancing cortisol and insulin as well. Vitamin C lowers the amount of cortisol released and stimulates carnitine production, which is involved in fat storage. Take at least 500 mg twice per day for fast fat burning results.
